Held in conjunction with the 8th NOAA Testbeds and Proving Grounds Annual Workshop on April 25th and 26th at the NWS Training Center in Kansas City, Missouri.
The first satellite in the NOAA GOES-R series was launched on November 19, 2016, and was designated GOES-16 (G16) when placed into geostationary orbit 15 days later. G16 thus began a year-long period of post launch in-orbit testing and extended validation at 89.5 W. On February 28, 2017 the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) successfully reached its beta validation milestone which was followed by the initial cloud and moisture imagery data distribution to users. In May, NOAA will announce the November 2017 final operational location of G16; either East (75 W) or West (137 W).
In recognition of the availability of the newly available G16 cloud and moisture imagery, and providing an opportunity to reach out and expand user readiness, the GOES-R Program will offer a special 1-day GOES-16 First Results workshop on Thursday, April 27, 2017.
